Bootees looking after babies Filled with captors, these revolutionary bootees are tested in 15 french hospitals. At the least alert they forestall nurses and perhaps next year worried parents. It is a nice white bootee with a vichy blue and white strip. Such a light object - 46 grams - is clever. It allows efficiently to look after the vital functions of babies especially premature ones. This technology marvel has been created by the Tam -telesanté society, suated at Aix en Provence , helped by the financial support of the Anaïs Dumanois foundation part of Fondation de France. "It allows to verify the cardiac activity of babies, their temperature and the percentage of oxygen in their blood" says Jean-Luc Weber physician and engineer who created twelve years ago his company and now applies his efforts to " clever " fabrics. The bootee is filled with captors which send informations to an electronic transmission sole.. At the smallest alert the informations are immediately wired t nurse through a portable receptor they keep in their pocket. "It relays the survey -apparatus of the incubator as soon as the baby is taken out of it." The main purpose of the "clever" bootee is to amphasize the relation between a new-born chil and its parents. " It relays the apparatus of the incubator as soon as the baby nests in his mother's arm or keeps close to her skin" says Jean-Luc Weber " but the bootee is also interesting for ordinary babies when they have been nursed for the first time and left to Stay quiet one or two hours on their mother's belly with a lighter survey". This bootee has been tested since February 2007 in 15 french hospitals. The first results published in 2006 validated the fiability of its captors. A second study is going on. On the 14 th of June at Rouen, very interesting evaluations were given to a pediatric congress. Final results will be explained at the national congress of peri-natality from October 17 th to 19 th at Marseille. "The heads of the 15 pediatric services will then deliver their opinion " sums up doctor Weber. If it is a positive one the bootees could be ordered by maternities, hospitals and paediatrics from 2008. Later parents could use them at home. At first time they will only be used at hospital but " later parents could use them at home when they come back from the hospital with still fragile baby " says Jean-Luc Weber Pointing the fact that " for the moment this bootee is not a commercial product but a tool of medical research to improve security and care of babies" Le Parisien Friday 3 rd of August 2007 |
